Plesk Subscription Failed User Already Exists

When creating multiple subscriptions (web hosting accounts) for a new customer today, I received the following error:

Failed to provision the subscription to the panel #94 “Local Parallels Plesk Panel server (serverName)”: Unable to update hosting preferences. User username already exists. Incorrect fields: “login”.

Once I had this error when attempting to create the second subscription, all subsequent attempts to add subscriptions failed.

The only way I was able to resolve this was by deleting the customer (and all related data) and recreate them from scratch.

I suspect the problem was caused by me creating the second subscription while the first one was still in a status of Pending, so to be safe I added each subscription only after the previous one was Active.
